Application characteristics and dosing method of polyacrylamide

Polyacrylamide is a flocculant used in sewage treatment and is a water-soluble polymer. It is insoluble in most organic solvents and can reduce frictional resistance between liquids when added. According to their ionic properties, they can be divided into four types: non-ionic, anionic, cationic, and amphoteric. When used as a flocculant in sewage treatment, colloids and dispersed particles of suspended solids form flocs under the interaction of molecular forces and collide with each other during sedimentation, resulting in precipitation. When using polyacrylamide as a flocculant, attention should be paid to the size of the flocculant. If the flocculant is too small, it will affect the drainage speed. If the flocculant is too small, it will restrict more moisture and reduce the degree of the mud cake. By selecting the molecular weight of polyacrylamide, the size of the flocculate can be adjusted. Secondly, as mentioned above, there are different types of polyacrylamide, and the choice of the actual type in practical applications depends on the sewage situation. According to the different properties of sludge, it can be divided into organic sludge and inorganic sludge. Cationic polyacrylamide is used to treat organic sludge and alkaline sludge, while anionic polyacrylamide flocculant is more suitable for inorganic sludge. Another thing to pay attention to is the solubility of the agent. Only when it dissolves well after addition can the flocculation effect be better exerted. In order to achieve rapid flocculation, the concentration of polyacrylamide can be appropriately increased. Its application can be achieved by introducing chemicals via gravity into the suction pipe of a water pump or the suction bell mouth of a suction well, with mixing accomplished using the pump impeller; pressure can also be employed to add chemicals to the raw water pipeline via a pump or sprayer. Pressure dosing is suitable for scenarios requiring chemical addition to water treatment structures situated at elevated altitudes or distant locations. An alternative method involves pump dosing, where the chemical solution is directly elevated via pressure piping into the solution tank.
