Homogeneous aqueous solution polymerization method Homogeneous aqueous solution polymerization is a polymerization reaction in which monomer acrylamide and initiators are dissolved in water, and commonly used initiators are peroxides and azodes. Aqueous solution polymerization is the earliest polymerization method used in the industrial production of polyacrylamide, because of its simple and easy operation, high polymer yield, easy to obtain high molecular weight polymers, and less pollution to the environment, it has always been the main method of polyacrylamide production. (1) Aqueous polymeric colloidal polyacrylamide production process The polymerization process of producing polyacrylamide aqueous colloids at low concentration (8%~12%) or medium concentration (20%~35%) is: ion exchange to refine acrylamide monomer aqueous solution, adjust the solution temperature to 20~50°C, and blow N2 gas for 20 minutes to remove oxygen in the solution. Potassium persulfate-sodium bisulfite initiator solution was added to initiate polymerization for 4~8h to obtain polyacrylamide aqueous colloidal products. (2) Aqueous solution polymerization powder polyacrylamide production process Aqueous solution polymerization powder polyacrylamide production process can be divided into low concentration and high concentration polymerization according to the concentration of monomers. Polyacrylamide-PAM-55 The production process of powdered polyacrylamide in low concentration (about 10%) aqueous solution polymerization is to form thin sheets on a steam-heated drum with about 10% AM polymerization, and the PAM is heated and dried as the drum is slowly rotated. The dry PAM is scraped off the drum and crushed to obtain a powdered product. The production process of powdered polyacrylamide with medium concentration (20%~30%) aqueous solution consists of three parts: polymerization, granulation and drying of medium concentration (20%~30%) aqueous solution. This polymerization process is divided into sheet (conveyor) polymerization and bulk (polymerization pot) polymerization. Flake polymerization process The heat released by AM with a concentration (content) of 20%~30% during adiabatic polymerization can increase the temperature of the system by 60~90°C. Due to the high viscosity of PAM, it is difficult to perform effective mechanical stirring even at the beginning of the polymerization reaction, so aqueous acrylamide (AM) can be coated on concave steel plates or conveying steel strips for thin layer polymerization. Belt speed control is done when the polymer reaches the end point. Adding surfactant, isopropyl alcohol or glycerin to the primary reaction solution, or coating the steel strip with a fluorine-containing polymer film can ensure that the polymer does not stick to the carrier. This makes it possible to complete polymerization reactions at high monomer concentrations (20%~45%) and over a wide temperature range. After the acrylamide polymer is removed from the steel strip, it is crushed, dried and packaged. Bulk polymerization process The polymerization process in which polymers do not exchange with the environment is called adiabatic polymerization. AM aqueous solution with a concentration (content) of 20%~35% was initiated at a temperature of 5~20°C in the presence of redox system. During this polymerization process, the polymerization temperature of the reaction block can reach or even exceed 100°C, and the polymer will maintain this temperature for 20h. The polymer gel is crushed with a screw extruder and then dried. During the crushing and drying process, anti-stick and structural stabilizers are added to the polymer. If the polymer gel is crushed into 0.2~5mm size particles and slightly soaked with water is coated on the surface of the particles, a polymer gel that is easy to store without drying can be prepared.
