Flocculant polyacrylamide in Indonesia
There are many kinds of chemicals used in the wastewater treatment process, among which the flocculation link is called polyacrylamide. Polyacrylamide has an average molecular weight of several million to tens of millions of molecules and can be mostly ionized in water, which is a polymeric polyelectrolyte. It can be divided into anionic polyacrylamide, cationic polyacrylamide and nonionic polyacrylamide according to the characteristics of its dissociable groups. Polyacrylamide is a solid powder in granular form, we usually need to prepare it into an aqueous solution according to a certain ratio, it is a nearly transparent viscous liquid, which is non-toxic and non-hazardous. Cationic and anionic PAMs are suitable for sewage or sludge with anionic and cationic charges, respectively. Activated sludge produced by biochemical method has anionic charge and cationic type should be used. Anionic PAM is better for cationically charged sewage or sludge, such as when treating sewage from steel plants, electroplating plants, metallurgy, coal washing and dust removal. The non-ionic type has better effect for both cation and anion, however, the unit price is very expensive, which makes the treatment cost higher.
